William Daniel Copeland was born on October 6, 1916, at Esmont, Albemarle County, Virginia; he was the son of James Daniel Copeland (1872-1957) and Lou Ellen (Conaway) Copeland (1897-1964).  William lived in the Esmont area all of his life and enlisted in the U.S. Army in Richmond, Virginia, on May 31, 1941.  After WWII, William returned to Esmont and worked for the U.S. Rubber Company in Scottsville, Virginia.  William was killed in a traffic accident on a public road in Albemarle County on August 14, 1946.  William is buried in New Green Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in Esmont, Virginia.
