Sandy Winfrey was born on June 22, 1898, in Esmont, Albemarle County, Virginia; he was the son of Penelope Winfrey (1866-1937).  In the 1910 U.S. Federal Census, Sandy lived with his mother in Scottsville, Albemarle County, Virginia.  On September 4, 1943, Sandy married Bessie Ann Brown in Charlottesville, Virginia.  Sandy and Bessie Winfrey were residing in Esmont, Virginia, when Sandy passed away on January 10, 1964, in Charlottesville, Virginia; he is buried at the New Green Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in Esmont.
