Mack L. Townsend was born on June 2, 1921, in Watauga County, North Carolina; he was the son of Wilson Arlando Townsend (1893-1957) and Ora Lee Hodges (1897-1963).  Mack was living in Cunningham, Fluvanna County, Virginia, in April 1940, and he enlisted in the Army on November 12, 1940, in Richmond, Virginia.  Mack married Norma Harriett Chaple Johnson on June 2, 1945, at Ft. Meyer, Arlington County, Virginia.  Mack passed away on December 20, 1981, in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa, and he is buried at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.
