Lester Dale Barnes was born on November 14, 1920, in Wytheville, Virginia.  His father was Lucius Lyman Barnes, and his mother was Bessie Dale.  Lester enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 7, 1942, but was medically discharged on September 10, 1943.  Lester married Magielie Ferrell on November 30, 1945 in Albemarle County, VA.   Lester resided for many years in Scottsville, Virginia, and passed away on May 21, 2004, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
