John Coletrain was born in September 1909 in Albemarle County, Virginia; he was the son of Julius Coletrain (1870-1930) and Cora (Swingler) Coletrain (1872-1952).  John lived in Scottsville, Virginia, with his parents and siblings in 1910-1930, and in 1940, John was residing in Esmont, Albemarle County, Virginia.  John married Sarah Jane Wesley on October 23, 1937, in Charlottesville, Virginia; John and Sarah divorced on June 9, 1978, in Charlottesville.  John enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 5, 1942, and served in WWII until November 24, 1945.  John returned to Esmont, Virginia, where he passed away on December 24, 1982, at the age of 74; he is buried at the New Green Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in Esmont.
