Gary Frank Coletrane was born on August 25, 1911, in Esmont, Albemarle County, Virginia; he was the son of Julius Coletrain (1870-1930) and Cora (Swingler) Coletrain (1872-1952).  Per the U.S. Federal Census, Gary lived in Scottsville, Virginia, with his parents and siblings in 1920-1930. In the 1930 census, Gary was employed at the Alberene Soapstone Company in Schuyler, Nelson County, Virginia.  On April 1, 1940, Gary was living in Montgomery Village, Maryland, and he was married to Evelyn Wayne.  Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 17, 1943, and served in WWII until November 28, 1945.  Gary passed away in Charlottesville, Virginia, on July 13, 1988, and is buried at the New Green Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in Esmont, Virginia..
