Felix Richard Pollard was born on January 14, 1916, in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina, and was the son of Joseph Elbert Pollard (1872-1945) and Willie Caroline Lutz (1882-1957).  Felix had eight brothers and two sisters and by 1930 was living with his family in Scottsville, VA.  On November 1, 1938, Felix married Ruth Daphne Bolick in Charlotte, NC.

Felix first joined the U.S. Army in 1938 where he served until 1939.  He then switched to the U.S. Navy in 1939 and began his service as a Seaman.  Felix stayed in the Navy through WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam War, and he retired in 1968 as a Lieutenant Commander.  Felix passed away on May 8, 2003, in Newton, NC, at the age of 87 years, and is buried at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, North Carolina.
