Adam Sylvester Payne was born on May 3, 1912, in Buckingham County, Virginia, near Scottsville; Adam was the son of Nathan Thomas Payne (1877-1948) and Mary Cecilia (Arnold) Payne (1875-1957).  Adam married Arleen Foushee Boyce on December 20, 1937, in Goochland County, Virginia.  Adam passed away on August 31, 1972, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, and is buried in Scottsville Cemetery, Scottsville, Virginia.
