Drilling the Scottsville Home Guard

Drilling the Scottsville Home Guard, 1918

Name:  Drilling the Scottsville Home Guard

Date:  1918

Image Number:  RollTwoNeg4A

Comments:  Rev. Leslie Walton, a schoolteacher and Baptist minister, stands in uniform at the left of this photo as he drills Scottsville High School boys as part of Home Guard training in 1918.  Standing in front of the Home Guard, facing Rev. Walton, is Harris Kent.  The building in the background is the Scottsville school on 'School Hill,' overlooking Valley Street.  This school served as the local public school from 1906 until Scottsville High School was built on West Main Street in the mid-1920's.
