Name: John Wesley and Florence (Johnson) Wood Date: unknown Image Number: DW05acdDW01, DW10cdDW02 Comments: John Wesley Wood was born October 25, 1889, in Virginia and was the son of Cornelius "Neal" and Mary (Martin) Wood of Scottsville. By the 1910 Federal Census, Wesley worked as a farmer and lived with his parents on Beals Lane just a few miles east of Scottsville in Fluvanna County, Virginia. Wesley married Florence M. Johnson ca. 1915, and they were the parents of three children: Lindsey Mason (1915-1990), Dorothy Beatrice (1917- ), and Harry Wood (died young). Florence (Johnson) Wood was born about 1896 in Manteo, Buckingham County, Virginia; she was the daughter of Nannie Johnson and sister of Mary, Joseph, and Elizabeth "Patsy" Johnson. By 1920, Wesley Wood farmed a small farm next door to his parents and also worked as a section hand on the C&O Railroad. He died on November 19, 1973, and is buried beside his wife, Florence, in the Union Baptist Church cemetery in Scottsville, Virginia. These photos are from the Dorothy Beatrice Woody collection.
