Lilla Moon

Lilla Moon, ca. 1872

Name:  Lilla Moon

Date:  ca. 1872

Image Number:  CRMS17cdCRMS01

Comments:  Lilla Moon was born in 1854 in Albemarle County, VA, and she was the daughter of John Schuyler Moon (1823-1876) and Elizabeth (Tompkins) Moon (1826-1891) of St. Annes Parish.  John S. Moon was an attorney in Scottsville at the time of Lilla's birth.

In 1870, John Schuyler Moon sold their Stony Point home near Scottsville to Jacob Luther Moon and purchased Snowden in Buckingham County, VA.  Lilla moved to Snowden with her parents, and in the 1880 U.S. Federal Census of Buckingham County, Lilla was living with her widowed mother, Elizabeth, and her siblings at Snowden.

In the 1880's, Lilla married Manlius T. Goodwin (b. ca 1850), a farmer in Louisa County, Virginia, and the son of Charles Q. Goodwin and Sarah J. Goodwin.  Lilla and Manlius Goodwin moved to Richmond, VA, and were the parents of two children, Clarence Quarles Goodwin and Lewis Pendleton Goodwin.  Manlius was deceased by 1904, and Lilla, his widow, moved to Montgomery, Alabama, to live with her son, Lewis, in Montgomery, Alabama.  Lilla (Moon) Goodwin passed away in Montgomery on March 15, 1929, and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery.
