Haywood Nelson, Jr., was born on March 29, 1925, in Esmont, Albemarle County, Virginia; he was the son of Haywood Nelson, Sr. (1886-1965) and Annie Nelson (1890-).  In the 1940 U.S. Federal Census, Haywood was residing with his parents and siblings in Albemarle County, Virginia.  Haywood enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 7, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia.  Haywood passed away on January 2, 1981, in Clinton, Prince Georges County Maryland, and he is buried at the New Green Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in Esmont.
