Flood Waters on West Main Street, 1969
Edward P. Pitts Edward P. Pitts describes 8 feet of flood water in his house beside Mink Creek during Hurricane Camille (1969). |
"As a little kid, we were right beside the creek—Mink Creek. So in ’69 during Camille, my Dad woke me up in the middle of the night, and he said, “I think we better get out!” He said that there was so much force of the creek coming underneath the house that he was afraid it was going to collapse. And we actually had to wade out. It was 8 feet deep in the house!" |
