W.F. Paulett & Son on Main Street, ca. 1940
Ann Paulett Holden Ann Paulett Holden recalls the original W.F. Paulett & Son store between the Methodist Church and Scottsville Museum on Main Street. This building burned down in a devastating fire in the 1970’s. |
"I will tell you a little bit about my father’s store. His store was fascinating in that it was built on three levels. On the first level were the materials that you bought, like the nails. And the nails would be in a great big revolving thing. Then you’d go up another level, and they would be making the things. The sawmill—the saw would be running, and they’d be cutting the boards and planing the boards and doing all of that on the next level. And on the third level they would lay the trucks of things that were going out. You could drive a truck on each level." |
